Through 5 months of 2020, the total number of tourists to Cat Ba reaches 379,970 arrivals, reaching 11.7% of the year plan. Total revenue from accommodation and catering services reached VND 255.8 billion, reaching 12.2% of the year plan.

Therefore, in order to stimulate demand for Cat Ba tourism after the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, the People's Committee of H.Cat Hai proposed and submitted to the People's Council of Hai Phong City to allow a 20% reduction of the ticket price on Lan Ha Bay.

Mr. Pham Quang Hien, Chairman of H.Cat Hai People's Committee, said: "If the schedule is right, in 2020, the fare to visit Lan Ha Bay will have to increase by 50%, nearly equal to the fare to visit Ha Long Bay ( Quang Ninh). Due to the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, the city halted the fare increase. If we continue to reduce 20%, it means a decrease of about 70%".

However, this reduction has not satisfied tourism service businesses and tourists. Mr. Ngo Anh Quyen (40 years old, living in Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city) said: "While Hai Phong has not yet discounted, Quang Ninh has been free to visit Ha Long Bay since May 14. Many of my friends have changed directions to Quang Ninh even though they originally planned to go to Cat Ba".

In fact, Cat Ba opened to welcome tourists earlier than tourist areas in Quang Ninh. During the holiday season from April 30 to January 1, visitors to Cat Ba are quite crowded.
